Miners taking a break from work just outside of an entrance into the Tropico Gold Mine (c. 1912)

Lauren Lien

Mining was one of the most important economic industries in the early Antelope Valley. Tropico Gold Mine, located in the hills of Rosamond, was one of the main employers of Lancaster residents during the early 1900s.

This photo, c. 1912, shows a group of miners taking a break from work just outside of an entrance into the Tropico Gold Mine.
